The Southern Storm, presented by Hi-Tec, is a multi-day duathlon consisting of trail running and mountain biking. This unique and exhilarating stage race took place this week along the Western Capes Garden Route, thus showcasing the natural splendour of the newly proclaimed Garden Route National Park. Six days of tempestuous action came to a head this afternoon when the Southern Storm Duathlon, presented by Hi-Tec, reached its climax near Wilderness on the Garden Route. After nearly a week of gruelling off-road running and biking, competitors and organisers alike lauded an unprecedented double win for Ian Don Wauchope and his wife Sue. Both Wauchopes broadcast an early storm warning during the Prologue Stage, and went on to utterly dominate the inaugural Otter African Trail Run, Stage One of the Southern Storm. Approximately 180 athletes joined them as they raced for glory along the 5-day Otter Hiking Trail after a historic agreement was reached between the event organisers, Magnetic South, and the management of SANPARKS. Shayne Vervoort, marketing manager of Hi-Tec, echoed Collins sentiments and pledged continued support to both the event and SANPARKS.
